Rickmansworth signal box

Rickmansworth signal box with its Westinghouse Brake & Signal Co. Ltd. Style 'N' Power Lever Frame was opened by London Transport on the 6th December 1953. It was built to a non standard design and was fitted with a 47 lever Westinghouse 'N' and a push button panel.

A second push button panel was installed in 1955 and a switch panel was installed in 1958.

The first moves towards computers for signalling came in 1971 when London Transport cam in the early 1970's when a trail at Rickmondsworth signalbox to control Watford Metropolitian station instead of through the Westinghouse miniature lever frame. The {then} new visual display unit can be seen at the far end of the lever frame.

The Westinghouse 'N' Style lever frame is clearly visible with its 47 levers, above which is mounted the various consoles, which are shown below in detail. The Style 'N' power frame is mechanically interlocked between the levers with additional electrical lever locks as required. The frame was formed of 4 x 12 way making a total of {4x12}-1 = 47 levers, as the last “lever” space is unavailable. Taken 1st January 2003.
